Summer Portrait

I spent some time digging through my external hard drive and came across this portrait I took back in 07 of one of my cousins children.

Open Mic and Mustache Pageant!

I realized today that I haven't put enough effort in blogging about some of the events I attend. I try to make it out at least once a week to some sort of event in downtown Portland. I love that there is always something rather unique going on around here and I'm always pleasantly surprised with who I run into and the topics of some of these events.
The first is a friend of mine, Andrea, who performs all over the city - just her and her acoustic guitar (and some fruit maracas!)

The second is the Mustache Pageant. March was Mustache Month here in Portland and it was decided that there should be some sort of event. I was quite impressed with the selection of mustaches out there. My favorite was the "Magnum PI" category but maybe I was a tad biased since I showed up in a "Tom Selleck is my hero" t-shirt.

Blair Witch of the Back Cove

It has been rainy the past couple days but when it finally decided to stop this afternoon I was quite happy with the cloud formations and the brilliant blue sky. I usually run around the back cove but this afternoon I strapped on my backpack and went for a quick stroll to catch some of the awesome rock structures against the beautiful sky. I wish I could have stayed out until sunset to get some great colors but I'm happy with these.

New skills

Last night I attended a Professionals teaching Professionals Photoshop seminar sponsored by the Maine PPA and held at Robert Akers Photography in Kennebunk. After a few wrong turns because I thought I had the wrong address I have decided I need an iPhone so I can access my email on the go! But on to the new skills I can't wait to try out.

We learned a bit about creating vignettes, fine art modification, selective coloring, creating digital backgrounds and photos with a vintage appearance. We also had a quick raffle for an AlienBee's B400 flash unit which I won! I'm so excited since I never really enter raffles. Back at NEIPP I won a 20x30 Giclee gallery wrap canvas print by knowing a Bruce Lee movie (Enter the Dragon). Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket?

Here's a sample of one of the techniques I learned. Thanks to Russell Caron for sharing his fine art modification process. I can see myself using this for some specialty products here and there once I refine my masking which accounts for the "glow" effect around her sweater and hair.

Boston Adventure

Yesterday I went on a little adventure to Boston and met up with some fellow photographers for lunch. Unfortunately it was horrible weather yesterday and we didn't really get to get out and shoot around the city. Here are some photos from the Prudential Building & the Mandarin Oriental.

Back home from NEIPP

I did not get nearly enough blogging in while I was away at NEIPP. I really wanted to keep everyone updated on what was going on but we had internet connection issues. I'll just sum it up for everyone now. It was a FANTASTIC time! I can't wait to go again next year. I learned so much about shooting weddings and the business behind everything I can't wait to sit down and implement everything that I've learned. I've got some great new higher end products to offer my brides this year and a few non-traditional ideas that I've been keeping to myself. I'll have to get some samples made up to showcase. Unfortunately I can't showcase any of the images I took from the course on my blog or website - they're owned by the school. I do have them on my computer so if anyone would like to view them I'd be happy to show them off. It was more of a watch and learn class so the photos I took are all from a 2nd shooter perspective.
I'll be meeting with some photographers in Boston this weekend for lunch and a photo safari if the weather is nice. I can't wait to meet some more amazing photographers and really get my business rolling!
